Characterization

Interdisciplinary scientific branch Geomatics deals with colleting, distribution, storing, analyzing, processing and representation of geographical data and geographical information is nowadays developing all over the World and influences in a distinctive way traditional fields of science. Geomatics as a scientific branch rises from integrated approach of collecting, storing, transfer (distribution), analysis and offer of Worlds data, designated as spatial data. Those data comes from many sources and are collected by various ways of surveying, cosmical surveying, mapping, cartography, remote sensing and photogrammetry. For their processing, administration and analyzing is used information technology GIS.

Doctoral study program Geomatics was accredited at the Department of mathematic at the University of Western Bohemia (ZČU) in 2005 as the first in the Czech republic. Doctoral study program takes up the magisterial study program Geomatics accredited in 1995. Doctoral study program responds to the rising requirements of modern progressive methods of mass-collection of data by straight surveying methods (by electronic tachymeter, combined GPS units), non-straight methods like laser scan systems (LSS), aero photogrammetry or remote sensing.

The characteristic attribute of study at the Faculty of Applied sciences (ZČU) is connectivity of all sections and correspondent specialization. From this come the above-standard possibilities of integrating the doctoral study program Geomatics during solving doctoral thesis intersectional.
